A bipartisan group of senators urged the president to keep the point of obligation under the Renewable Fuel Standard and to reject changes that would overhaul the system. They cited the importance of ethanol to North Dakota farmers, where about 50% of corn goes to ethanol.
Keeping the current obligation structure preserves steady blending demand for ethanol and corn. Changes would create uncertainty for corn-based biofuel demand.
