A Beijing roundtable at the IMI on April 15 discussed the macro drivers of RMB exchange rate fluctuations. Speakers including Wei Benhua said the RMB will not see long-term devaluation and that two-way fluctuation is normal.
The event was attended by about 60 bank representatives.
The discussion reflects official views that the yuan is stable, which supports steady Chinese import demand. It does not signal a new shock to feed prices.
