Cedigaz reports that Japan's average gas import price rose to $10/MBtu in Q2 and could approach $12 in Q1 2019, tracking oil prices. Average 2018 prices are expected to rise sharply in Europe (+36%) and Asia (+30-40%) but fall about 3% in the US.
Diverging regional gas prices show that US gas stays cheap relative to Asia and Europe, which favors US nitrogen fertilizer and energy costs over import-dependent regions. Oil-linked contract pricing keeps Asian gas costs elevated.
