ICRA says that falling regasified LNG prices, expected to moderate toward $8.5 to 9 per mmBtu by January 2019, will improve margins and reduce working capital needs for Indian urea producers. Natural gas makes up about 70% of urea production costs, and the decline follows a peak of $11.5 in November 2018.
Cheaper gas lowers urea production costs, which can ease nitrogen prices over time and tighten the cost link to feed grains, while the energy price decline also reflects softer global gas demand.
