A Congressional Research Service report says retaliatory tariffs on U.S. farm goods, imposed since 2018 over steel, aluminum and China tariffs, have made U.S. exports relatively more expensive. Shipments to affected countries have fallen, weighing on U.S. commodity prices.
The report warns that competitors may expand output over the longer run.
Tariff-driven export losses cut demand for U.S. soybeans and corn, which pressures domestic prices and shifts trade to South American suppliers. For feed buyers, that means ample U.S. supplies at lower prices, though the effect is largely background.
