Indian rice exports fell 42% in October 2019 and 28% over April to October, as demand weakened from Iran and African buyers. Prices for Indian 5% parboiled rice dropped to their lowest since January 2017 before recovering somewhat in early December.
Loss of EU contracts over pesticide residue rules was also cited.
Weaker Indian export demand and low world rice prices weigh on the rough rice market, though the partial recovery limits the downside.
