CoBank economist Will Sawyer says China has started rebuilding its hog herd, which will slow US pork export growth over the next three to five years. Greater China now takes nearly 8% of US pork production, up from 2% before the African swine fever outbreak.

Expected slowing of Chinese pork import demand is bearish for US hog prices and reduces future demand for feed inputs tied to US pork production.
