Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said in a January 13, 2021 interview that the central bank is not raising rates anytime soon and rejected any near-term reduction in bond purchases. The dollar index was little changed to slightly lower at about 90.26 after he spoke, though it had risen about 1.2% since a three-year low the prior week.
A dovish Fed that keeps the dollar softer tends to support dollar-denominated commodity prices and reflationary trades, though the dollar's recent rebound limits the effect.
