US feedlots and the NCBA are questioning fresh beef imports from Brazil after two human CJD cases and two atypical BSE cases were detected there. The NCBA has asked USDA to suspend imports pending a risk review of Brazil's disease detection system.
A suspension of Brazilian fresh beef would tighten US beef supply and could support domestic cattle prices, though no action has been taken yet.
