The USD/MXN pair rose to around 20.80, a five-week high, as the US dollar strengthened broadly after the Fed opened the door to a March rate hike and more hikes in the following year. Mexican peso weakness was limited, with Banxico expected to hike rates again.
A firmer dollar against the peso makes US feed and grain imports more expensive for Mexican buyers, a key export market for US corn and feed. This is a currency move that shifts import costs at the margin.
