Eastern Oregon wheat producers are hoping a potential labor dispute at West Coast ports does not disrupt exports. The contract between the dockworkers union and 29 ports expires in July, and the outcome is uncertain.
The Port of Portland is a major outlet for exported wheat from the region.
A possible strike at Pacific Northwest ports would threaten export flows for US wheat and could widen basis spreads. For now the risk is prospective and the expiry is months away.
