The Rainforest Alliance welcomed the European Commission's proposal on deforestation-free products while urging changes to align it with existing initiatives and better address producer communities. Its white paper lists recommendations for strengthening the proposal and producer-country partnerships.
Advocacy for changes to the definitions could alter which commodities and origins face EU restrictions, affecting future palm and soy trade flows but with no immediate price effect.
