The Parliament's Environment Committee adopted its position by 60 votes to 2 with 13 abstentions on the Commission's deforestation-free products proposal. MEPs want the scope extended to pigmeat, sheep and goat meat, poultry, maize, rubber, charcoal and printed paper, and want human and indigenous rights added to due diligence.
A wider scope that includes maize and pigmeat would add compliance requirements for EU feed-chain imports, which could marginally cut EU demand for certain origins. The committee position is not final, so the market impact is minor for now.
