Two government sources said India will keep its ban on broken rice exports and its 20% duty on other white rice shipments to hold down domestic prices. Rice exports reached a record 22.26 million tonnes in 2022.
India is the world's largest rice exporter, so keeping curbs in place tightens global supply and pushes up prices for Asian and African importers. Buyers will likely face higher offers for the foreseeable future.
