The USTR says it has requested USMCA dispute settlement consultations with Mexico over agricultural biotechnology measures that it considers not science-based. Congressional leaders praised the move and urged Mexico to lift restrictions on US corn.
The statement is a commentary on the formal request filed earlier in June.
The dispute targets Mexico's GM corn rules, which threaten a market that takes most of US corn exports to Mexico. Continued escalation keeps downside pressure on US corn export expectations.
