The USDA will fund eight fertilizer manufacturing projects totaling over $1.3 billion. The agency estimates the added capacity could cut nitrogen prices by 4.4% and potash prices by 5.3% once operational, supporting about 1.1 million tons of annual domestic output.
Lower projected nitrogen and potash costs would ease crop input expenses for feed grain producers over time. The effect on prices is gradual because the plants are not yet operational.
