BMI, a Fitch Solutions company, says La Niña usually brings above-average rainfall to Southern and Western Africa. It views the coming event as an upside risk for corn in Southern Africa and cocoa in Western Africa.
The strength and timing of the event remain uncertain.
Higher African corn output would ease import demand and weigh on regional prices, while cocoa is not a feed input. The effect on global feed markets is small.
