EU member states have approved the postponement of the deforestation law, confirming the delay. Critics say the rules could exclude millions of poor, small-scale farmers from the EU market.
The US had also criticised the EU for being late to launch a compliance system.
Confirmation of the delay removes near-term uncertainty for exporters of palm oil, soy and cattle products to the EU. Exporters can keep current shipping patterns for another year.
