The Colombian peso strengthened to its highest level in more than a year as the US dollar weakened sharply. The dollar index fell on growing expectations that the Federal Reserve will cut rates soon.
The peso gained 2.89% over four trading days, making it the best-performing emerging-market currency over the period.
A weaker dollar generally eases the cost of dollar-priced commodities and imports for emerging-market buyers, and a firmer peso lowers Colombian feed import costs. The move reflects broad dollar weakness rather than a change in Colombian feed supply or demand.
