The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar on Wednesday, September 17, at 4.1840/2140 from the prior close of 4.1975/2080. Analyst Stephen Innes linked the move to expectations of a more accommodative Federal Reserve stance and easing US-China trade tensions.
The ringgit was weaker against the yen, pound and euro at the open.
A stronger ringgit lowers the local cost of dollar-denominated feed imports, while easing trade tensions reduce risk to Malaysia's trade-linked currency. The effect on feed prices is limited and comes through currency conversion.
