China's National Bureau of Statistics data showed pork production rose 7% in Q4 2025 to 15.7 million metric tons, the highest fourth quarter since 2018. Hog slaughter rose 2.4% for the full year 2025, and cash hog prices were 12.6 yuan per kg, down from 15.4 a year earlier.
Rabobank expects prices to rebound near the end of Q2 2026.
The Q4 output surge and low cash hog prices indicate heavy domestic supply and weak margins, which reduce near-term hog feed demand. Government efforts to cut sow herds could support a later price recovery.
