Freight quotes from Russian ports to Egypt more than tripled in nine days, rising to $70 per tonne by August 20. Russian wheat fell $9 to $215 per tonne over the same period, so the delivered cost to Egypt rose about 16-17%.
Higher ocean freight and war-risk insurance raise the delivered price of Black Sea wheat even as the FOB price falls. This keeps Egyptian import costs high and supports wheat values in the delivered market.
