The White House is considering regulatory relief that would expand sales of tax-exempt red-dyed diesel, typically used for farming, as diesel prices hit records. The administration has also weighed a blanket diesel export ban, voluntary refiner export limits, and asked the EU to release emergency diesel stocks.
Broader access to lower-tax farm diesel could reduce on-farm fuel costs for feed-grain producers. Analysts doubt it would address shrinking supply, so the price effect may be limited.
