Oklahoma confirmed its first highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak in a dairy herd, bringing the number of affected US states to 13. USDA reported that H5N1 can spread between cattle through respiratory and mammary routes, and a total of 157 outbreaks have been confirmed.
Infected dairy herds reduce milk output and raise biosecurity concerns, which can pressure milk supply and prices. Spread to new states increases uncertainty for dairy producers.
