Oil prices rose about 5% to a two-week high after the US sanctioned Russian oil majors Rosneft and Lukoil over the war in Ukraine. Brent gained $3.37 to $65.96 a barrel and WTI rose $3.33 to $61.83.
US diesel futures jumped almost 7%, lifting the diesel crack to its highest since February 2024.
Sanctions on Russia, the second-largest crude producer, could cut global supply and push refiners in China and India to find replacement barrels. Crude and diesel prices are likely to stay supported while the sanctions hold.

It describes the same sanctions-driven rally, with Brent up to about $66 and the diesel crack widening, but is dated Oct 23, so it is probably describing the same move after the fact.
