A small delegation from the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees travelled to Ottawa to press the federal government to take back ownership of the Port of Churchill from OmniTrax. Workers say the port closure and cut rail service to one train a week have left the town short of groceries and fuel.
With the port shut and grain shipments halted, Western Canadian grain would have to move through other routes in 2017, tightening logistics and supporting basis and freight costs for feed buyers.
