Bunge CEO Soren Schroder told analysts that Mexico is unlikely to buy heavily from South America because US corn remains cheaper. He said switching would require a price shift in Brazil and Argentina.
Mexico bought 13.3 million tonnes of US corn in 2015-16, and US shipments to Mexico in the current marketing year are up 8%.
Current pricing keeps US corn competitive in Mexico, which limits the near-term risk to US export demand from trade threats.
