Brazil's government is urging the EU to trust its deforestation monitoring data and says it is building property-level platforms so importers can check deforestation risk. Brazil has been a vocal critic of the EU deforestation regulation, which requires geolocation proof that commodities sold in the bloc are not from deforested land.
The regulation is due to apply from 30 December 2026 and the Commission has ruled out reworking it.
Compliance requirements for Brazilian cattle, soybeans and coffee could raise documentation costs and may shift sourcing toward non-deforestation-linked supply, which can affect EU premiums and flows.
