The Thai Rice Exporters Association expects strong baht to curb rice exports to 9.5 million tonnes in 2018, below the 11 million tonnes targeted for 2017. Thailand has shipped 10.3 million tonnes so far in 2017, up 16.3%.
India has already shipped more than 11 million tonnes.
Lower Thai rice export volumes tighten the Asian rice trade balance somewhat, but India's larger export volume limits the impact on global rice prices.
