Bank Indonesia's governor said the recent rupiah depreciation mainly reflects broad US dollar strength tied to US 10-year yields reaching 3.03%, plus seasonal Q2 dollar demand for debt payments, imports and dividends. As of April 26 the rupiah was down 0.88% month to date, a smaller decline than several Asian peers.
A weaker rupiah raises the local cost of imported feed inputs such as soybean meal, corn and other ingredients priced in dollars, pressuring Indonesian feed margins. The central bank's stated reliance on FX intervention rather than rate hikes suggests no immediate policy tightening.
