India's Ministry of Commerce notified a Transport and Marketing Assistance scheme on 27 February 2019 to offset high freight and marketing costs for agricultural exports. The scheme takes effect on 1 March 2019.
Subsidised freight and marketing costs can lift Indian export competitiveness, adding supply to world markets for rice and other farm goods. The effect is modest and gradual.
