An MU Extension analysis of corn prices says planting delays could reduce US corn area and yields. A scenario of 85 million planted acres with 170 bu/ac yields implies a crop about 1.7 billion bushels below USDA's May forecast.
The analysis projects farm prices near $4.15/bu and Chicago corn near $4.50/bu, and March 2020 futures already traded above $4.50.
A supply shock of this size would tighten the feed grain balance and raise feed costs for livestock buyers. The price implication is bullish corn, although the outcome depends on final planting and yields.
