Purdue analysts discussed the USDA June report, which projects soybean oil biofuel use up 26% from 2020 marketing year. Soybean ending stocks remain tight, at under 3% of usage for 2020 and about 3% projected for 2021.
Most analysts expect planted acreage to exceed the USDA's original estimate.
Biofuel demand now makes soybean oil and soybeans more sensitive to biofuel policy, and higher-than-expected acreage would add supply and pressure prices. Downside price risk is building in both corn and soybeans.
