Sterling and the euro rallied against the dollar after the Bank of England bought UK government bonds in its first buyback operation. The central bank accepted 1.025 billion pounds of the 2.587 billion pounds offered, and committed to buying long-dated gilts until October 14.
The intervention eased dollar strength temporarily, which can modestly support dollar-priced commodities, though underlying UK fiscal risks remain.
