Beef Magazine reviews fed cattle supply, noting feedlot placements have been lower than a year earlier, especially for heavier feeders. Cow slaughter was very high in 2022 but is slowing, and heifer mix on feed was at a record high at the start of 2023.
Lower placements and slowing cow slaughter point to tighter near-term fed cattle supply, supporting prices and feed demand over the coming months.
