India's trade directorate DGFT amended the non-basmati rice export policy so that exports are permitted only after contracts are registered with APEDA. The notification adds this condition to the ITC (HS) codes for non-basmati rice, effective 24 September 2025.
The registration requirement adds a procedural step to Indian non-basmati rice exports, which could slow shipments modestly and marginally support global rice prices.
