Brazil's real weakened past 5.44 per dollar as inflation pressures and a stronger dollar hit emerging-market currencies. Mid-August inflation came in at 4.95% year on year, above expectations.
Market repricing pushed local rates higher, and weaker trade inflows widened the external gap.
A weaker real can make Brazilian soybean and meal exports more competitive, which weighs on dollar grain prices. Higher local rates signal tighter policy that slows domestic credit for farmers.
