BIMCO data cited by Hong Kong Maritime Hub show global grain shipments up 13% year on year so far in 2026, with shipments to China up 15% and US grain shipments to China up 137%. Supramax grain shipments rose 27%, lifting supramax tonne-mile demand and freight rates for that segment.
Strong grain export volumes support freight demand, especially in the supramax segment, and that firmer shipping demand adds cost to bulk feed grain trade. Continued growth in US-China grain flows also supports export demand for US feed grains and soybeans.
