FAO Director-General QU Dongyu urged member countries to strengthen partnerships to prevent and control transboundary animal diseases at an information session on the new Global Partnership Programme for TADs in Rome. He warned that recent funding cuts risk undermining progress as global risks intensify.
FAO cited its ECTAD programme, which has supported more than 50 countries.
Funding cuts to animal disease prevention raise the risk of future outbreaks that could cull herds and flocks and disrupt feed demand. The message is a long-term risk signal rather than an immediate supply shock.
