Indonesia's energy minister Bahlil Lahadalia said on June 18 that the country is on track to launch its B50 biodiesel mandate on July 1, requiring 50% palm-based biodiesel blended with 50% conventional diesel. He said B50 tests had shown encouraging results.
The ministry estimates the mandate could save 157 trillion rupiah in fuel import costs this year.
Diverting roughly 3 million tonnes more palm oil annually into biodiesel cuts exportable supply and supports palm oil prices. Lower diesel imports also reduce pressure on the fuel market.
