University of Illinois and USDA-ARS research using a 26-year herbicide trial dataset finds that inadequate late-season weed control caused a 41% soybean yield loss. Even high weed control levels did not prevent significant losses under drought and heat, and herbicide resistance is making complete control harder.
The findings point to structural yield pressure in soybeans from weeds and resistance, which could support soybean yield risk over time, but the effect on current prices is limited.
