Prompt-month natural gas closed at $4.84 per MMBtu, the highest level since 2014, after a 16 percent storage deficit against the five-year average. U.S. storage stood at about 3,200 Bcf, the lowest entering winter in 15 years.
Production was near record levels at about 86 Bcf/d.
A large storage deficit entering winter means prices are likely to remain supported if cold weather returns, raising energy costs across feed manufacturing. Record output limits the upside, so the price path depends on weather.
