October natural gas futures settled at $1.835 per MMBtu, down 21.3 cents, the first close below $2.00 since early August. The decline followed lower LNG feed gas flows, a seasonal maintenance outage at Cove Point LNG and forecasts of milder Midwest temperatures.
Lower LNG feed gas demand and milder weather reduce near-term gas prices, which eases energy and fertilizer costs for feed producers. The effect is mostly on the energy complex.
