Cooler-than-normal April weather is slowing US corn planting, and soils in parts of the Corn Belt are very dry. Speculative funds have built their corn long position to a decade high on these weather risks.
Dry soils and slow planting raise the risk of yield losses and drought later in the season. Large fund long positions also add volatility to corn prices.
