India has signed agricultural trade agreements with eight countries, including the United States, Canada, Chile, Ecuador, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan and Iran. It has also filed market access requests for 35 farm products with more than a dozen countries.
Officials say the government is moderating its use of frequent agri-export restrictions.
Expanded market access for Indian farm products could gradually broaden export outlets for rice and other items, but the near-term effect on feed grain or oilseed prices is limited.
