Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue told the Senate Agriculture Committee that EPA waivers eliminated demand for 1.12 billion gallons of ethanol last year. USDA's estimate matches an analysis by the Renewable Fuels Association.
Perdue also said the president wants the RFS volume kept at 15 billion gallons and that a year-round E15 decision is pending.
Losing over a billion gallons of ethanol demand removes a significant outlet for corn grind, which is bearish for corn. A year-round E15 decision could partly offset that demand loss.
