A University of Illinois study published in Agronomy developed an algorithm that predicts end-of-season US Midwest corn yield and grain composition (starch, oil, protein) using weather during three key development stages. The predictions apply across the whole Midwest crop regardless of genotype or practices.
Earlier mid-season yield and quality forecasts could sharpen expectations for corn supply and protein content, though the research itself is unlikely to move prices immediately.
