CECCAM analysts criticize the Federal Law for the Promotion and Protection of Native Corn, which the Mexican Senate approved on March 24. They say it does not prohibit GM corn planting or commercialization, which they link to the Biosafety Act and the USMCA.
The law does not ban GM corn, so it does not change current US corn export flows to Mexico. Its effect on prices depends on whether future rules restrict biotech imports.
