Trase published a policy brief on strengthening the EU's proposed regulation that would prohibit imports of soy, beef and palm oil produced on land deforested after 2020. It argues the definition based on FAO forest criteria excludes savannahs, wetlands and peatlands, and recommends risk-based targeting in implementation.
Import prohibitions on deforestation-linked soy and palm oil could eventually tighten EU supply of these commodities and their meals, but the regulation is still a proposal with no near-term volume effect.
