An analysis of changes in U.S. international beef trade notes that Japan has been the top beef and veal export destination since 2013. South Korea has been second for six years on a trade agreement.
Average annual exports to each market over the past five years are cited at over 831 million and 648 million pounds.
Concentration of export demand in Japan and South Korea makes cattle prices sensitive to access and demand in those two markets. Shifts in their buying would move U.S. cattle values.
